It literally means shedding of the surface tissues as the top layers of dead cells are removed from the skin – EXFOLIATION. Skincare experts say that best exfoliation removes grime, dirt, eliminates dead cells, reduce excess surface oils and loosens acne plugs plus reduces blackheads.
Exfoliation is deemed important because when the skin is well-scrubbed, the cells absorbs the cream, moisturizers and lotions much better thus nourishing and adding softness to the skin. This process also is often used to manage skin disorders like dermatitis, eczema, and psoriasis. Gentle and regular exfoliation slows down aging and rescinds appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, blemishes and skin tone.
Is it important to choose the ingredients? Yes it is since it a forceful treatment so the right technique for the right skin type should be done. For oily and combination skin type, once a week would be minimum and as for dry skin, once every 20 days is okay, organic skincare products are highly recommended ( drops of jojoba oil is recommended along with scrub for better results).
Scrubs made from our kitchen and garden are ideal to use as synthetic ones would just strip off the natural oils of our skin. Walnuts, oatmeal, pumice stones and natural loofahs have always been the top faves. Honey when added in your scrub recipe works well for all skin types as gentle exfoliator for face and neck.
